My Wife and Report from Haiti
You should know that my wife wanted to be a nurse since she was a child. She was one of those kids that knew what they wanted to be all along and actually did it. In college while she was getting her bachelors in nursing she loved critical care the most. I remember her telling me the stories of trauma when she did her clinical work in East St. Louis. The more dramatic the better. Her dream job would've been... read more

Haiti and My Wife
We're still not able to get away from watching CNN or Fox News nearly all day around our house. If not on the TV then reading articles and looking at unbelievable images online. I just came from cnn.com where I was looking at several pictures of dump trucks dumping bodies into a large hole that is acting as a mass grave for the tens of thousands that have been killed by the earthquake in Haiti.

The weekend after the earthquake hit Haiti... read more

January 20, 2010

Dear friends,

As you know, the largest earthquake ever to hit Haiti struck on Tuesday, January 12th, registering at 7.0. This region is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere and has been completely devastated. Officials are calling for International Relief agencies to mobilize volunteers to assist in the overwhelming task of bringing emergency relief. Latest reports are that more than 100,000 are presumed dead and many are still trapped in the rubble. The need for search and rescue, first aid, and immediate relief is growing.

Amanda Martin and Sarah Wood will be leaving this weekend (either Saturday or Monday) to assist in the relief efforts. We will be joining with One Heart Ministries. There is a team in Courrefour, a city located just outside the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, providing medical aid as well as assessing what will be needed for the teams that will continue to arrive. We received a call from them yesterday reporting that they have set up outside of a hospital in Courrefour and are already running out of supplies. One of they greatest needs right now is PAIN MEDICATION! They are currently out of everything and are performing amputations without even administering Tylenol! They gave us reports that a 5-year-old sat outside their compound with a broken femur and they had no pain medicine for him. We have burn victims, numerous people with broken bones, and people who have been infected with gangrene after being trapped in the rubble under dead bodies. They are all coming to us for help and we are trying to provide all that we can for them.

We would also like to purchase a Voyager water purifier to take with us. This machine will purify 25 gallons of water in an hour. We are going to leave this behind with the village after we come back to the United States. If you are willing and able to donate for this necessity, please give below through PayPal. Your donations are tax deductible and 100% of your gifts will be used immediately for supplies, equipment and travel. We appreciate anything you can do to help!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us! Again, we will be leaving this weekend for 7 days. Thank you so much!

Sincerely,

Amanda Martin & Sarah Wood
